Director of Strategic Partnerships

Working at SOAR headquarters in Pikeville, KY and reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Strategic Partnerships will have both internal and external facing responsibilities, ranging from partner management (business development, framing of key approaches, written products) to administration (information technology, reporting, facilities), and community engagement (committee, advisory council, sector roundtables). This position will partner closely with the SOAR Team to chart SOAR’s future growth and strategic response to an ever-increasing opportunity for growth in Appalachia Kentucky.

  • Develops and implements an annual program of work to engage our partners through the Blueprint Partnership Program. Working to:
    • Build value in our partnership program for existing partners
    • Increase the number and engagement of partners in our work toward accomplishing SOAR’s mission
    • Implement programming to increase innovation and connectivity amongst our partners
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships; exceptional relationship-builder
  • Structure and lead SOAR Action Teams to deliver regional impact through collaboration
  • Represent SOAR in industry-group conferences, professional associations, and other public venues
  • Develop thought leadership around specific topics/emerging practice areas
  • Share in knowledge dissemination, reporting, and communications
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships and fosters collaborative efforts with community nonprofit funders, businesses and community organizations
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Passionate about SOAR’s mission and impact
  • Proven experience in a leadership position in private industry, non-profit organization, foundation, or government agency
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required; MBA, MPA, or other graduate degree is preferred.
  • Track record delivering superior results, garnering respect, building consensus, and assuming leadership roles
  • Success in roles requiring execution of multiple tasks while responding to multiple priorities
  • Proven ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, and good humor
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of people – junior and senior, for-profit and nonprofit, and from diverse backgrounds
  • Operates with excellence in mind in all matters, with the confidence to defend/debate ideas with an attitude of service
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in organizational settings
