Economic Development
Executive Director

The Organization:

The Marion County Industrial Foundation has had stable, successful leadership over the past two decades with the previous director having landed dozens of industries. The organization is funded 60% by county government and 40% by the City of Lebanon.


The Position:

The Executive Director plans, organizes and implements all economic development functions related to business retention, attracting new business, and improving quality of life assets for our community. The Executive Director directly reports to the 13 member board of directors. The office consists of the Executive Director and one additional employee.


Our Vision:

We have created economic momentum having located multiple industries in our community over the past two decades under our previous economic developer’s steady leadership. Given this success, our vision is that our executive director will continue our strong existing industry program to take care of the companies already here and work to improve our community from a quality of place / community development standpoint. We still want to participate in the industrial recruitment arena given we have 2 industrial parks with available land. We would like to create some diversity among our industrial sector, but we want to shift some of our focus to improving the community’s assets for our current and future residents. 


Our Ideal Candidate:

Our ideal candidate will have had tangible results in economic development over a minimum of 7 years experience. Preferably some of these 7 years of experience will have been spent having had success in a rural setting.

He or she will be a good industrial recruiter and enjoy being an asset to our existing industries to help them be sustainable and grow in Marion County. Additionally, he or she will enjoy working on non-industrial developments such as improving our retail options, improving our restaurant options, improving our recreation/entertainment options, improving our hotel options, etc. He/she will also be forward thinking with solutions to workforce development issues.


Estimated Time Spent on Areas of Responsibility:

  • 45% Business Development (Half spent on industrial recruitment half on other commercial/quality of life type developments)
  • 30% Existing Industry Support
  • 15% Building Workforce/Talent Pipeline
  • 10% Administrative Duties

The finalists for the position will be asked to sign an authorization allowing us to conduct background and reference checks. These may include checking criminal records, driving records, education completion, and calling several references from prior positions.

Qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, minimum of 7-years experience in economic development desired, track record of being part of a well-rounded economic development program which provided tangible results in growing the economy.


Marion County is located in the geographic center of Kentucky within an hour and twenty minutes of both Louisville and Lexington. We have two very strong clusters of industry: one, automotive suppliers; two: bourbon related companies (barrel making and distilleries). The county has significant economic development momentum having added over 4,000 new jobs over the past decade. Boasting a top ranked school system with strong vocational training programs, Marion County’s 20,000-plus residents are work ready.



The hire will be required to be a resident of Marion County within 3 months of beginning the position.

Salary Range:  
$95,000 to $120,000
