POSITION SUMMARY: The Kentucky Association for Economic Development (KAED) Board of Directors is seeking a dynamic professional to elevate the organization’s role and impact within the Commonwealth. The President/CEO is responsible for the organization’s financial health and administrative efficacy. Further, the President/CEO will lead in the strategic operation development within a multi-platform portfolio and execution of deliverables thereof. The President/CEO will lead transparently, creatively, and collaboratively to represent the industry, grow the Association, serve and respond to membership, and positively effect economic development in the Commonwealth. The President/CEO will report to the KAED Board of Directors with direct oversight provided by the Board’s Chairperson. 

 

ABOUT KAED: The Kentucky Association for Economic Development (KAED) is the Commonwealth’s forum for stakeholders dedicated to the enhancement of professional capacity and acceleration of economic development. The Association’s 900+ individual membership consists of representatives of economic development organizations, state agencies, local governments, utilities, chambers of commerce, universities, quasi-governmental entities, associations, and professional service firms. The Association organizes two major conferences annually, markets Kentucky as a business location, serves as the government relations voice of economic development practitioners, manages the Kentucky Economic Development Professional Certification Program, and houses special state-wide efforts including the Kentucky Economic Recovery and Resilience Project and the Kentucky Product Development Initiative. The Association partners strongly with the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development to satisfy and execute upon aligned internal and external goals. KAED manages the KAED Foundation, which is responsible for professional education and relative special projects. The KAED mission is to enhance professional capacity of economic developers, to accelerate economic development in the Commonwealth, and to collaborate among stakeholders to the benefit of the Commonwealth and the citizens thereof.

 

KAED Executive Management

  • Develop, satisfy, and manage KAED and KAED Foundation budget.

  • Provide transparent oversight and report monthly regarding status of seven KAED financial accounts with assets above 3 million dollars.

  • Facilitate and provide for consistent meetings of the KAED and KAED Foundation Boards of Directors and affiliated Committees thereof.

  • Oversee KAED and KAED Foundation staff, program contractors, and volunteers. KAED President/CEO is responsible to set goals, deliverables, and feedback.

  • Assure operational compliance with KAED and KAED Foundation Bylaws and established procedures.

  • Assure all matters specific to operating a 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) businesses in the Commonwealth of Kentucky are in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

KAED Strategy

  • Provide vision, leadership, and hands-on development of value-adding, educative, and capacity building membership services.

  • Provide vision, leadership, and hands-on development, in collaboration with appropriate partners, of programming to drive economic development success in the Commonwealth.

  • Within Committee infrastructure, provide vision, leadership, and hands-on development of strategy specific to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Assure KAED strategy is informed by appropriate partners, market intelligence, and comparative analytics.

KAED Member Engagement

  • Oversee targeted and measured membership retention and development program to grow professionals associated with KAED.

  • Oversee targeted and measured investor and sponsor program to drive mutually beneficial financial investment within KAED and KAED Foundation. President/CEO responsible for investor compliance.

  • Oversee targeted event engagement operation to drive participation at KAED and KAED Foundation events.

  • Facilitate opportunities, placement, and engagement for members within the slate of KAED and KAED Foundation Committees.

KAED Events & Programming

  • Provide vision, leadership, hands-on development, and oversee execution of all activities within KAED and KAED Foundation event portfolio.

  • Assure KAED out-bound marketing, via KentuckyUnited, is professionally and strategically managed and executed.

  • Assure the Kentucky Product Development Initiative is compliant with Kentucky Product Development Initiative Act of 2022 and is successfully executed.

  • Provide meaningful data tools to be leveraged by KAED members.  

  • Provide for and update interface for professionals to track progress through Kentucky Professional Certification Program curriculum housed within the KAED Foundation. 

KAED Government Affairs

  • Provide vision, leadership, and hands-on development, leveraging all available data sources and forums, in the creation of proactive policies and strategies to drive economic development in the Commonwealth.

  • Under direction of the Board of Directors, serve as a liaison to legislative and executive branches to execute KAED’s strategies and satisfy deliverables.

  • Under the direction of the KAED Board of Directors, serve as liaison and KAED representative to all levels of Government and representatives thereof.  

  • Develop strategic and communicative relationships with leaders within all the branches of state government.

KAED Public Affairs

  • Maintain and further develop collaborative/strategic relationship with the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development.

  • Assure partnership-compliance and further develop key KAED and KAED Foundation relationships.

  • Develop new strategic partnerships with aligned entities to satisfy KAED mission, strategies, and deliverables thereof.

  • Build-out and operationalize KAED grassroots network.

KAED Communications

  • Serve as liaison to all media outlets and external entities.

  • Serve as chief communications officer, responsible for all strategic, sales, and informative communications of KAED and the KAED Foundation.

  • Develop strategic relationships within Kentucky media to advance KAED communications.

     

Requirements

 

Required Education

  • BA/BS Degree

Required Experience

  • 7 years of leadership experience

     

Preferred Experience

  • 7 years of leadership in membership organization

  • Experience developing and managing programs

  • Experience managing and evaluating staff

  • Successful experience in sales

  • Successful experience in marketing

  • Successful experience in event management

  • History of securing significant financial investments/sponsorships

  • Successful experience specific to government relations and advocacy

  • Experience in economic development

Travel
